Read 6 signs that your baby is ready to start solids

Here are 3 Hard But Real Truth About Self Feeding that are not normally talked about!

There is going to be a lot of mess

Once you start solids at 6 months, barely after a few months it time to teach self feeding.

Self feeding is an important skill that babies have to learn and they may not perfect it right away. Hence the mess.

And expect a lot of it.

Think of it this way; a lot of mess for a few months or lots of mess for the rest of your life.

Start with finger food. I used to let my baby grab a cucumber slice at 9 months and he used to chew the whole thing and was occupied. Win win for both of us.

You can choose any finger food that your baby likes.

For food start with a thick puree or porridge that will most likely stick to the spoon unless they swing the spoon all over in excitement. Anyways expect a mess.

Clean the floor, highchair, clothes and the baby & move on. Period!

You have to let your baby feel food

Expect a lot of waste too because the food will end up on the floor. But you have to let them touch and feel the food too.

Not always they are gonna want to use the spoon. My little one loves to lick the last of the porridge off this fingers.

To combat that I usually take off his shirt. The bib is gonna protect their clothes only so much. Just an idea:)

Would love to know in comments if you try it!

They won’t know how untill they try, so back off

So the mom in you would try really hard to help your baby or better feed them too. But to have to back off and let them make a mess.

Start with 1 meal a day preferably a snack that they can feed themselves. Then move on to other meals.

From my two time experience I can tell you this that this can be really hard. But it’s also important that they learn the self feeding skill.

You don’t wanna stuff your baby with food rather you’d want then to feed themselves.

It’s just the start that’s difficult. And mom’s it does get better. Babies are fast learner.

It’s easy to babies to learn, we just gotta be patient!
