How Lockdown Made My family Share The Load

Lockdown has been tough for me. Covid19 is a scary monster. I never would have imagined we would have to close down an entire country to combat an epidemic.

Having a 5 month old baby boy, a 6 year old super active son and a husband at home 24/7 was not what I would have wanted. Weekends were all that I could take.

Sharr-the-load

I am someone who strives on routine and I need my space but with everyone at home, increased chores and unlimited demands for food were making me mad. My mind was all rattled and I was agitated all the time. Gurmeher had his online classes stared and my husband resumed his work from home. Mornings were super busy. Work, breakfast, lunch prep, chores, Gurkirat feeding and sleeping etc etc.

Initially I was the only one managing everything. Our house routine had gone for a toss and we were in survival mode. Just doing the bare minimum. Taking each day at a time. Man I don’t ever want to live like that again.

Hence we all decided that it’s time to divide chores to give each one of us some time and space.

Now mind it my husband doesn’t know anything about housework nor has he ever done it. Still he tried.

With all the cleaning and cooking laundry took a back seat. So my husband was quite willing to #sharetheload .

From loading the laundry to drying and then folding and putting it back to its place was a big help. #sharethelaundry load was so so helpful since it made it easier for me to concentrate on other things.

As the lockdown increased so did my husband and son changed. More willing to work and help me out with things. Gurmeher loved to cut cucumber in salad and help me set the table and most importantly entertain Gurkirat so I can relax for a bit. And my darling husband made sure I get my sanity from time to time hence leaving me alone.

This lockdown has taught me a lot-

  • Don’t take people in your life for granted.
  • Family time is the most important.
  • Divide the chores and they can be conquered.
  • I need to smile more after.
  • Let go of things that are not in your control.
  • I hate doing laundry so I let my husband do it.

I recently saw this video. It’s a must watch for all. #ShareChoresMultiplyLove
